DDR5 Modules from KINGSTON: These RAMs Stay Cool and Fast even in the Heat

DDR5 Module from KINGSTON

The latest generation of RAM is already in use with DDR5.
So what is the big difference between DDR4 and DDR5?

Because while the two RAM variants look similar, there are some important new features.

The starting point for upgrading to DDR5 is primarily the desire for higher performance, lower power consumption and more robust data integrity. Here, DDR5 is the upgrade for the next decade of computing.

The booster for at least 50% more speed
Compared to DDR4 with a bandwidth of 3200 MT/s, DDR5 brings a whopping 4800 MT/s*, a 50% increase. In line with computing platform releases, performance increases are planned for DDR5, which will even reach 6400 MT/s.

Requires only 1.1 volts
DDR5 requires less power despite better performance. While DDR4 has a standard voltage requirement of 1.2 volts, DDR5 only consumes 1.1 volts.

Integrated power management
Thanks to the integrated Power Management Integrate Circuit (PMIC), the power requirements of the various memory module components (DRAM, registers, SPD hub, etc.) are optimally regulated. The motherboard is thus no longer responsible for voltage regulation, since the memory modules have a controller for power management, the so-called PMIC.

Another important change is the power architecture. With DDR5 DIMMs, power management is shifted from the motherboard to the DIMM itself. This makes more efficient use of power and enables higher signal integrity. In addition, DDR5 modules have a different pin assignment as well as an offset notch. The new position of the "key" ensures that it can only be installed in "compatible" slots.

Better efficiency in memory access
The big advantage of DDR5 over DDR4 is the lower latency. The lower the latency, the faster the CPU can access the instructions it has temporarily stored in RAM. The consequence of this is additionally better efficiency in memory access. Furthermore, the performance is also improved by a more efficient refresh procedure with the DDR5 memory.

Stay cool!
To monitor thermal conditions along the entire length of the DIMM, Kingston DDR5 RDIMMs and server-class LRDIMMs feature temperature sensors on the ends of the modules as standard. Unlike the throttling of performance that occurs with DDR4 at high temperatures, this allows for more precise control of system cooling.

Conclusion
All in all, the DDR5 modules set a new benchmark in the memory world, especially due to their increased performance. Special features that make the user experience easier, such as lower power consumption or better efficiency when accessing memory, are only the first important insights about the upgrade to DDR5 memory. KINGSTON offers even more features for its DDR5 modules that make the memory experience even more positive.
